Meet the Winemaker
Raised on a wine farm in the Rawsonville area, Carel Botha’s life route would always lead him to the path of wine. After completing his degree at Elsenburg, he gained overseas experience.
Knowing that a great wine has balance, complexity, and a lingering aftertaste, Carel aims to create wines that capture these qualities. For Carel, this means focusing on the basics from start to finish.
For Carel, the reward of seeing people enjoy and appreciate his wines diminishes the challenges involved in his job.

About the Winery
Albertus de Wet’s family owned and farmed the grounds of Le Grand Chasseur Estate from 1881 until September 2015, when the land was sold to Habata. Two years later, in 2017 the company started to sell their wines under the Habata label instead of Le Grand Chasseur.
Under the guidance of winemaker Carel Botha, Habata creates wines while also striving to cultivate a future of renewed prosperity through excellence and innovation.
Habata is also one of the largest citrus exporters in South Africa.
